What APC presented to Nigerians as their presidential primary election results is deeply embarrassing. Everyone involved in organizing that election should honestly feel ashamed.

How do you claim to have just over 12 million registered members, accredit more than 11 million voters, and then end up with almost the exact same number of votes cast? That puts the turnout at about 87.55% — an unbelievable figure by any standard.

To put this into perspective, Nigeria’s entire 2023 presidential election had about 93 million registered voters, yet only around 24 million people voted, which was roughly 26.7% turnout nationwide.

So how is it possible for a party primary election to suddenly record participation figures that even a national election could not achieve? The numbers simply do not add up.

These are the warning signs people are seeing and choosing to ignore. If things continue this way into next year’s elections, we may witness even more shocking irregularities.

This is not normal, and Nigerians deserve better. What we are experiencing in this country is far from the standard of life and democracy people should have to endure.
